Blow upon my Garden
4:16 Awake, O north wind, and come, O south! Blow upon my garden, that its spices may flow out. Let my beloved come to his garden and eat its pleasant fruits.
This is the bride’s response to His statement about the garden of her heart. Every call of the Lord requires a response from us. Every Word that goes out of His mouth is for a specific purpose. Nothing He utters should be allowed to fall to the ground, or hover aimlessly above the atmosphere. His Word requests, requires and desires a response, and our response will be recorded in heaven.
When He says, “Arise, My love and come away,” we have a choice. When He leaps over mountains and bounds over stars to find us, will we be ready to respond quickly, or will His appearance catch us unaware or unprepared? When He beckons us to step out of the boat, out of our comfort zone into the raging seas, will we find the strength and courage to obey?
When He dreams a destiny for us that seems too big, too impossible, will we shrink back or will we dare to believe that this is truly what He dreamed for us?
When He gently points out to us areas of our hearts that are not yet yielded, will we take the steps necessary to give Him access, no matter how painful, humbling or shattering? Be sure of this. He will surprise you, and it won’t be what you were expecting. Be prepared to respond rightly, even if the Lord calls you to something you had not planned for.
When He says, “My bride is a locked garden, a blocked spring, a sealed fountain,” the Lord is alerting us to a heart condition that requires a response. There are very few believers who live in complete transparency and yieldedness before the Lord. We may think we do, but He is letting us know that we are not yet an open garden for Him to walk into.
We were created with a vast capacity to love the Lord and to love others. We have treasures in our hearts that have not been released, developed or even discovered. We also have wounds, pains, offenses, fears, doubts and shame in our hearts that we have not yet allowed the Lord to heal, remove, discover and uncover, mend, bend or break off. Can we allow the Lord to prune good branches and remove that which is bad seed from the garden of our heart? The enemy is the one who sows bad seed in the field of our hearts (see Matt.13:27-28).
The response of the bride is seen in 4:16. “Awake, North wind and blow, South wind, blow upon my garden, so my spices can flow out – let my Beloved come into His garden and enjoy its choice fruits.”
Meditation
Whatever it takes, Lord, take me through it. Whatever winds need to blow across my life, send the winds, Lord. Blow over me, so that I can be a safe place for the Son of Man to lay His head.
